OIL & ENERGY

Bottom of the Barrel
The world is running out of oil - so why do politicians refuse to talk about it?

DRAWING LESSONS FROM EXPERIENCE - Part 2
The Agricultural Crises in North Korea and Cuba - Part II. Both Cuba and North Korea are "Communist" countries. Yet the people of one country are eating while the people of the other are starving. Why? In taking a deeper look, we see in Cuba a form of capitalism and private ownership centered around local communities. Forget the labels. As dwindling supplies of oil and gas are beginning to impact global food supply - about a decade ahead of predictions, the difference between eating and starving takes on a whole new meaning - even for Americans.

China's rising grain prices could signal global food crisis - It's Happening Faster Than We Expected
The Agence France-Presse Is reporting that a major famine may be looming for China and that their purchases of US grain could multiply. The AFP Story does not address the serious Peak Oil and Gas issues raised by Dale Allen Pfeiffer in Eating Fossil Fuels or acknowledge that US grain harvests are falling. It does add the new wrinkle of how Global Warming (caused by burning oil and gas) continually reduces crop yields. On top of a recent CNN report announcing that soon the US will not be able to export any grain at all, it is clear that the effects of Peak Oil and Gas have begun to hit sooner than anyone expected.

DRAWING LESSONS FROM EXPERIENCE
Part I of a Special Two Part Series by Dale Allen Pfeiffer - We have been asked, so often, "What can the people do about Peak Oil?" Now FTW looks at the effects of drastic oil shortages in two different countries that have seen their supplies of oil and gas cut to almost nothing, North Korea and Cuba. One, North Korea, is a bitter lesson about what happens to complex systems when the oil and gas run out. Because its economy is top-down, like the US, its devastating failure to adapt is an omen for what we can look forward to, unless we change the financial incentive system and ownership in this country. On the other hand, Cuba, with rapidly increasing local ownership and control, with government decentralization and an imperative on maintaining standards of living in local areas is a model of success and the embodiment of Catherine Austin Fitts' Solari model for place-based equity and financing.

EATING FOSSIL FUELS
by Dale Allen Pfeiffer. As CNN, The Independent and Jane's Defence Weekly acknowledge the reality of Peak Oil and Gas, admitting that actual global reserves may be 80% less than previously reported, FTW publishes the most important and frightening story in its history. Impeccable research shows that US food production is requiring more and more hydrocarbon energy to produce less and less food. Until now, no one has really reported how much oil, gas and fresh water (pumped by hydrocarbons) we need to feed ourselves and the planet and what we can look forward to as the crisis starts to hit home.

IMMINENT PERIL (Part II)
In the conclusion of this two-part special series, FTW's Contributing Editor for Energy, Dale Allen Pfeiffer builds upon the wealth of scientific research describing the civilization-threatening consequences of Peak Oil and Gas by taking a look at the existing obstacles to effective change, as well as that hard look that mankind - and especially the industrialized nations - must take if the human race is to survive. He concludes that every "sacred cow" must be on the table, and that our only hope is making sustainability our number one priority.

FTW EXCLUSIVE, "Behind The Blackout"
Energy Investment Banker, Government Energy Advisor and CFR member Matthew Simmons offers candid and explosive observations on the Northeast Blackout, Peak Oil and Gas and tells the truth about America's energy supplies. Will politicians rise to the challenge? Simmons says, "What that means in the starkest possible terms is that we are no longer going to be able to grow. It's like with a human being who passes a certain age in life. Getting older does not mean the same thing as death. It means progressively diminishing capacity, a rapid decline, followed by a long tail."

IMMINENT PERIL (Part I)
The Northeast power grid failure demonstrates that the environment and Peak Oil and Gas have now formed a deadly alliance. Yet detailed, even prophetic warnings and analyses of energy issues are now coming true with stark precision. FTW's Contributing Editor for Energy, Dale Allen Pfeiffer, takes a detailed look at a record that foresaw the crises we are seeing today and leads us in the direction of paths that can help address energy issues that have just begun to eat at the fabric of society. The only way out comes from a complete revision of the way society works, starting with an overriding commitment to sustainability (a reduction of consumption) and a commitment to policy, which means political leadership. The latter is perhaps more scarce a commodity than natural gas.

Washington, DC Emergency Natural Gas Summit Hints At Coming Crisis
When Markets Fail - America Leaps Off the Gas Cliff Without A Parachute

Environmental and Energy Activist Julian Darley Attends DOE Conference on Natural Gas and Questions Spencer Abraham. It's a mixture of myth, madness, denial and the inability of America's political and economic system to function in the real world when corporate priorities and political need drive decision making. As Peak Oil and Gas continue to intrude on the American psyche it is becoming clear that chaotic government responses may become the rule as geology and physics trump economic theory intended to support the markets.

Revealing Statements from a Bush Insider about Peak Oil and Natural Gas Depletion: FTW EXCLUSIVE
Bush energy advisor to the secret Energy Task Force headed by Dick Cheney before 9/11, Matthew Simmons, spoke candidly about Peak Oil at a recent Paris conference attended by FTW Editor Mike Ruppert. The transcribed remarks of this CFR member at this exclusive conference are chilling affirmations of the only issue driving world events since 9/11.

"The uh, I think basically that now, that peaking of oil will never be accurately predicted until after the fact. But the event will occur, and my analysis is leaning me more by the month, the worry that peaking is at hand; not years away. If it turns out I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. But if I'm right, the unforeseen consequences are devastating...But unfortunately the world has no Plan B if I'm right. The facts are too serious to ignore. Sadly the pessimist-optimist debate started too late."

CANADIAN TAR SANDS DISASTER

For all the people touting tar sands as a solution to the pending apocalypse of Peak Oil, a little experience with reality should help them understand that the books on energy are as cooked as the books of Enron, WorldCom and Halliburton. When business tells you there's plenty of oil it is only to protect the financial markets. One more time Canada gets screwed as tar sands oil production proves to be a non-cost effective and environmentally destructive concept.

SAUDI ARABIA, WEST AFRICA -- NEXT STOPS IN THE INFINITE WAR FOR OIL
FTW Predicted Saudi Destabilization Nine Months Ago. As venerable progressive icons like Pacifica radio's "Democracy Now" belatedly discover the inconsistencies and lies of 9/11, the moves for the next conquests are already in play. Deployment of US troops for the Iraqi invasion was also the preparation for the seizure of Saudi Arabia's reserves, the largest in the world. And the smaller but more accessible prizes of West African reserves have become predictably threatened by rebel uprisings and - Surprise! - al Qaeda. Peak Oil is confirmed yet again.
